Our trip got off to a good start as we picked up two wins in the Columbia Post 19 Independence Day Classic.
Game 1: Post 34 - 8 Gallatin, TN - 0
Brad Phillips picked up the win throwing a complete game in the five inning game that was shortened due to the mercy rule. Phillips allowed only one hit while striking out 6.
Garrett Stallings hit a 2 run homer in the first inning to get the scoring started. Stallings added another hit in the fourth when he doubled in Chase Fields. Fields was 2-3 one the day with a single and a double. Chase Sullivan was 2-3 with a single and a double. Austin Dickerson was 2-2 with two singles.
Game 2: Post 34 - 14 Franklin Generals - 2
Post 34 scored 4 in each of the first three innings along with two more in the third to get the sweep and first place in Pool 2. Brett Snider threw two innings to get the win. Chase Sulivan, Trey Burkhalter, and Garrett Stallings all threw one inning each. Post 34 pitchers gave up four hits and struck out 6.
Offensively, Post 34 was led at the plate by Chase Fields, Jared Pratt, and Blake Herren with two hits each. Austin Alexander had a two run home run in the 4th.
In ten innings of baseball, Post 34 scored in every inning but one for the day. Tomorrow, we face Training Academy of Murfreesboro. This begins the 16 team single elimination tournament. Game time for tomorrow is 3 PM at Spring Hill High School.
