Day Five - Edmonton, Kentucky

Post 34 continued swinging the bats well on Day 5 of the trip. We played Bowling Green Post 23 & the Post 65 Mustangs at Edmonton Memorial Park in Edmonton, Kentucky. Post 65 was the 2010 Kentucky State Champion. Post 34 scored 34 runs and had 30 hits in the doubleheader. This makes Post 34's overall record 28-9 and 8-0 on the road trip that will continue today in South Bend, Indiana.

Game 7: Post 34 - 15 Bowling Green - 1

Brad Phillips pitched a complete game in a 15-1 five inning win over Post 23 from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Phillips had seven strikeouts and allowed only three hits. He also hit three batters. Bowling Green scored their only run on an error.
Post 34 scored 5 runs in the first inning off of four walks and an error. In the first Chase Sullivan had Post 34's only hit, a double. In the second inning Post 34 would benefit from three more walks but also in the inning hits by Cameron Sanders, Garrett Stallings, Brandon Tubbs, Austin Alexander, and Blake Herren helped push the lead to 11-0.
Post 34 would be held scoreless in the third. In the fourth, Blake Herren led off with a single. With two outs, Jacob Bush doubled and Sanders singled to bring in three more runs. Following back to back walks to Tanner Ashcraft and Stallings, a single by Brandon Tubbs would make the score 15-0.
Bowling Green scored their only run in the fifth when an errant throw into the dugout on a double play ball allowed a runner to advance to home plate.

Game 8: Post 34 - 19 Post 65 Mustangs - 7

In the top of the first Post 34 jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Garrett Stallings singled to bring in Jacob Bush who had also reached on a single. The lead wouldn't hold on for long however as the lead off hitter for the Mustangs hit a home run on a 3-2 pitch from Post 34 starter Trey Burkhalter. The Mustangs would add another run in the inning and would hold the 2-1 lead until the top of the third.
In the third inning with one out, Bush singled and Cameron Sanders doubled. Stallings hit a home run to put Post 34 up 4-2. Again the lead would not hold up as Post 65 came up with four hits in the bottom half of the inning to score three runs and take a 5-4 lead.
Post 34 would add three runs in the fourth although a single by Jordan Cooley and a sac fly by Tanner Ashcraft were the only balls to leave the infield. In the fifth, Brandon Tubbs and Austin Alexander led off the inning with back to back singles. Post 34 would score three runs in the inning aided by bunts from Austin Dickerson and Cooley as well as a single by Tanner Ashcraft.
Post 65 would add two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 11-7. The sixth inning started just like the fifth as Tubbs and Alexander singled. Also getting hits in the inning: Blake Herren (single); Jordan Cooley (single); Jacob Bush (double); Tanner Ashcraft (single); and Garrett Stallings (single). Post 34 scored four runs to push the lead out to 16-7.
Post 34 would add three more runs in the seventh when back to back singles by Sanders and Ashcraft scored Alexander, Cooley, and Bush who had all reached on walks.
Trey Burkhalter pitched five innings giving up 7 runs (6 were earned). For the game, Burkhalter allowed 8 hits and four walks. He struck out 4 Post 65 hitters. Jacob Bush came on in the sixth inning and allowed only one baserunner. That baserunner was thrown out at second trying to advance on a ball in the dirt by Dickerson. For the game, Dickerson threw out three Mustangs trying to steal.
