After three come from behind wins win in the Reunion Classic hosted by Northbrook Post 791, Post 34 took a different approach to claim a victory. After two innings, Post 34 led 7-0 but had to hold on late in the game as Northbrook made a furious comeback. In the end Post 34 won 13-10, claiming their 14th consecutive win and second tourney title in eight days.
Game 14: Post 34 - 13 Northbrook - 10
Had there been a tournament MVP, Garrett Stallings would have been it. For the tournament, Stallings was 14-18 in the tournament including seven doubles, one triple, and three home runs. Stallings started the scoring in the first when he triple to drive in Tanner Ashcraft who had singled with two outs.
In the second, Post 34 would jump out to a 7-0 lead on hits by Austin Alexander, Blake Herren, Ashcraft, and Stallings. Also in the inning, Jacob Bush, Cameron Sanders, and Austin Dickerson would reach via walks. Post 34 would add a run in the third after a single by Blake Herren and walks to Dickerson, Bush, and Sanders.
Mason Morris would claim his second tournament championship win of the tournament throwing a complete game and striking out 11. Northbrook would score three in the third, three in the fifth, and four in the sixth but in the seventh with Post 34 holding on to a 13-10 lead, Morris struck put the side to get the complete game win.
Heading into bottom of the fifth, Northbrook had brought the game to within one run at 8-7. Post 34 would not relinquish the lead however. After a walk to Blake Herren, three doubles by Post 34 would produce three runs. Jordan Cooley brought in Herren and with one out, Sanders would bring in Cooley. With two outs, Stallings would double to bring in Sanders and push Post 34 further in front by a score of 11-7.
In the sixth, after Northbrook once again got within one run, Post 34 added two runs. Lead off walks to Dickerson and Herren followed by a sac bunt by Jordan Cooley put runners at second and third with one out. Dickerson would score on Bush's sac fly to right. Following three walks to Sanders, Ashcraft, and Stallings, Herren would score.
After Morris' best inning of the night in the top of the seventh, Post 34 claimed the championship of the Reunion Classic by a final of 13-10.

Day Ten - Northbrook, Illinois
After twelve games in 9 days, we had seen comebacks, big innings, and huge rallies with two outs. Those were nothing compared to what we would see in game 13 of our trip. Post 34 rallied to win 16-15 in eight innings over St. Charles Post 342 and advance to the championship game against Northbrook. Northbrook won two games on Sunday to make it to the championship game. In game 14 of our trip, the final game, Post 34 would once again defeat Northbrook by a score of 13-10.
Game 13: Post 34 - 16 St. Charles - 15 (eight innings)
Post 34 found itself in a huge hole before getting the opportunity to come to the plate. After the top of the first, Post 34 trailed 10-0. Garrett Stallings would hit his third home run of the tournament in the bottom of the first, scoring Tanner Ashcraft who had reached on a fielder's choice.
In the second inning, Trey Burkhalter came on in relief of starter Brad Phillips. Burkhalter held St. Charles scoreless through the fifth inning to allow Post 34 to get back into the game. Post 34 would score five runs in the bottom of the inning. Stallings doubled and Brandon Tubbs singled in the inning to bring the score to 10-7.
Post 34 would add a run in the third when Cameron Sanders singled in Jordan Cooley who had reached on a walk. There would be no scoring for either team until the sixth when St. Charles added five in the top half of the inning to push their lead to 15-8.
In the bottom of the sixth, Post 34 would once again make a comeback. In the bottom of the eighth with one out, Bush would hit the first pitch well over the right centerfield wall to give Post 34 the walk off 16-15 win.

Day Nine - Northbrook, Illinois
Since we did not have a game until 7 pm, we spent most of the day in Chicago. We spent the night before at Navy Pier so we chose to go the area where Wrigley Field is located. We took a tour of Wrigley that included going into both clubhouses, the Cubs dugout, press box, and the bleachers. We also went to Giordano's for Chicago style pizza.
Saturday's game would be a rematch of the 1967 American Legion World Series between Post 34 and Northbrook Post 791. Post 34 took two of three games in 1967 including a 1-0 win in the championship game. Another slow start for Post 34 would make for more late inning heroics as Post 34 won 12-10.
Game 12: Post 34 - 12 Northbrook - 10
Post 34 allowed Northbrook a six run lead before finally getting on the board in the fourth inning. Jacob Bush came on in the 7th in relief of starter Gregg Adcock to get the save. The bottom of the seventh was not without drama however. After retiring the first two hitters, Bush would walk the Northbrook lead off hitter and hit the next hitter. An infield single, would load the bases and bring the clean up hitter to the plate. On a 2-2 pitch, a ground ball to first base would end the game and give Post 34 it's twelfth win in a row.

Day Eight - Northbrook, Illinois
We started out slow today but we did manage to come away with two wins. We had to battle back in the last inning of the first game to defeat Elk Grove, 10-6. We then defeated Barrington 13-1.
Game 10: Post 34 - 10 Elk Grove - 6
After two innings of play, Post 34 was trailing by more runs than it had the entire trip. Elk Grove jumped out to a 6-2 lead. Post 34 had scored two runs in the top of the first, after a double by Jacob Bush, single by Tanner Ashcraft, and a double by Garrett Stallings. Elk Grove would score 3 in each of the first two innings mainly on walks and errors.
In the fourth inning, Post 34 would add a run when Austin Dickerson singled in Austin Alexander who had reached on a double. The score would remain 6-4 going into the seventh inning.
In the seventh with two outs, Post 34 managed to score 7 runs. Cameron Sanders led off the inning with a double. With one out Garrett Stallings beat out a possible inning ending double play to put runners at the corners. With two outs, Brandon Tubbs walked and Alexander was hit by a pitch to bring Post 34 within a run. Blake Herren then singled into the four hole to score Stallings from third and Brandon Tubbs from second. Following a walk to Austin Dickerson to again load the bases, Jordan Cooley doubled into right centerfield and scored when Jacob Bush stole second.
Chase Sullivan started for Post 34 and pitched five innings. He struck out four and allowed 5 hits. After a shaky start the first two innings, Sullivan held Barrington scoreless and retired nine of eleven batters he faced.
Jacob Bush came on in relief in the sixth inning to get the win. Bush did not give up a hit and the only runners were a walk in the sixth and an error in the seventh.
Game Eleven: Post 34 - 13 Barrington - 1
Post 34 picked up where they left off by scoring 6 runs in the top of the first against Barrington Post 158. Bush, Sanders, Ashcraft, and Stallings started off the game with hits. That was followed by a walk to Tubbs. A double by Alexander and a single by Herren capped off the scoring.
Post 34 would add single runs in the second and third innings. Ashcraft, who had reached on a walk, scored on Stallings two out double in the second inning. In the third, Herren reached on an error and later scored on a double by Jordan Cooley.
Austin Alexander hit a three run home run in the fourth to score Stallings (single) and Tubbs (double). Herren walked following the home run and later scored on Cooley's second double of the night. In the fifth, Post 34 scored on a Garrett Stallings home run to give Post 34 the 13-1 win.
Terran Cochran threw all five innings for the win.

Day Seven - Notre Dame & White Sox Game
We spent day seven touring Notre Dame and the College Football Hall of Fame. We then traveled to Chicago and checked into our hotel. That night went to US Cellular Field to watch the White Sox take on the Minnesota Twins.
The dad of one of the players for South Bend Post 50 works in Public Relations at Notre Dame. He led us on a tour that included going into the football stadium and the locker room. It was an incredible experience for all of us, even this die hard Alabama fan. We also toured the College Football Hall of Fame which is also located in South Bend.
Although the Twins-White Sox wasn't much of a game, the stadium was nice and we had pretty good seats down the right field line. Twins won 6-2.
We were off on Day Seven, our first off day in nearly a week. We have played extremely well on this trip going 9-0 heading into the tournament in Northbrook, Illinois. Our record on the season is 29-9.

Day Six - South Bend, Indiana
Our sixth day of the trip took us to South Bend, Indiana to play South Bend Post 50. Prior to the game, Post 50 coaches and parents cooked hamburgers and hotdogs for us. We got there at about 5 pm local time to eat and then played a seven inning game which we won 11-8. The people from Post 50 were awesome just as the folks in Edmonton, Kentucky were the night before.
Game 9: Post 34 - 11 South Bend - 8
Post 34 would get on the board early when Tanner Ashcraft hit a three run home run that scored Jacob Bush and Cameron Sanders who had both reached on hits. Brett Snider started for Post 34 and after giving up 5 runs in the first two innings, settled down to only one run over the next two innings to pick the win. For the game, Snider had two strikeouts and allowed four hits and four walks. Terran Cochran pitched the fifth inning, allowing 2 runs on one hit and three walks.
Post 34 added single runs in the second and third innings to tie the score going into the fourth at 5-5. Post 34 would break open the close game in the fifth when Garrett Stallings and Brandon Tubbs got back to back singles with no one on base and two outs. Austin Alexander followed with a walk and Blake Herren was hit by a pitch to score Stallings. Singles by Austin Dickerson and Jordan Cooley scored 3 runs to put Post 34 up 9-6.
After Post 50 scored two in the bottom of the fifth, Post 34 would add two runs in the sixth. Austin Alexander drove in two runs with two outs with a deep fly ball to straight away centerfield. Alexander came up big for Post 34 the rest of the game as well on the mound. Alexander retired all six batters he faced in the last two innings, three were strikeouts.
Post 34 will have Thursday off from playing. This will be our first off day since last Friday. Currently Post 34 is 29-9 on the season and 9-0 on this road trip.

Day Five - Edmonton, Kentucky
Post 34 continued swinging the bats well on Day 5 of the trip. We played Bowling Green Post 23 & the Post 65 Mustangs at Edmonton Memorial Park in Edmonton, Kentucky. Post 65 was the 2010 Kentucky State Champion. Post 34 scored 34 runs and had 30 hits in the doubleheader. This makes Post 34's overall record 28-9 and 8-0 on the road trip that will continue today in South Bend, Indiana.
Game 7: Post 34 - 15 Bowling Green - 1
Brad Phillips pitched a complete game in a 15-1 five inning win over Post 23 from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Phillips had seven strikeouts and allowed only three hits. He also hit three batters. Bowling Green scored their only run on an error.
Post 34 scored 5 runs in the first inning off of four walks and an error. In the first Chase Sullivan had Post 34's only hit, a double. In the second inning Post 34 would benefit from three more walks but also in the inning hits by Cameron Sanders, Garrett Stallings, Brandon Tubbs, Austin Alexander, and Blake Herren helped push the lead to 11-0.
Post 34 would be held scoreless in the third. In the fourth, Blake Herren led off with a single. With two outs, Jacob Bush doubled and Sanders singled to bring in three more runs. Following back to back walks to Tanner Ashcraft and Stallings, a single by Brandon Tubbs would make the score 15-0.

Game 8: Post 34 - 19 Post 65 Mustangs - 7
In the top of the first Post 34 jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Garrett Stallings singled to bring in Jacob Bush who had also reached on a single. The lead wouldn't hold on for long however as the lead off hitter for the Mustangs hit a home run on a 3-2 pitch from Post 34 starter Trey Burkhalter. The Mustangs would add another run in the inning and would hold the 2-1 lead until the top of the third.
In the third inning with one out, Bush singled and Cameron Sanders doubled. Stallings hit a home run to put Post 34 up 4-2. Again the lead would not hold up as Post 65 came up with four hits in the bottom half of the inning to score three runs and take a 5-4 lead.
Post 34 would add three runs in the fourth although a single by Jordan Cooley and a sac fly by Tanner Ashcraft were the only balls to leave the infield. In the fifth, Brandon Tubbs and Austin Alexander led off the inning with back to back singles. Post 34 would score three runs in the inning aided by bunts from Austin Dickerson and Cooley as well as a single by Tanner Ashcraft.
Post 65 would add two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 11-7. The sixth inning started just like the fifth as Tubbs and Alexander singled. Also getting hits in the inning: Blake Herren (single); Jordan Cooley (single); Jacob Bush (double); Tanner Ashcraft (single); and Garrett Stallings (single). Post 34 scored four runs to push the lead out to 16-7.
Post 34 would add three more runs in the seventh when back to back singles by Sanders and Ashcraft scored Alexander, Cooley, and Bush who had all reached on walks.
Trey Burkhalter pitched five innings giving up 7 runs (6 were earned). For the game, Burkhalter allowed 8 hits and four walks. He struck out 4 Post 65 hitters. Jacob Bush came on in the sixth inning and allowed only one baserunner. That baserunner was thrown out at second trying to advance on a ball in the dirt by Dickerson. For the game, Dickerson threw out three Mustangs trying to steal.

Game 8: Post 34 - 19 Post 65 Mustangs - 7
In the top of the first Post 34 jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Garrett Stallings singled to bring in Jacob Bush who had also reached on a single. The lead wouldn't hold on for long however as the lead off hitter for the Mustangs hit a home run on a 3-2 pitch from Post 34 starter Trey Burkhalter. The Mustangs would add another run in the inning and would hold the 2-1 lead until the top of the third.
In the third inning with one out, Bush singled and Cameron Sanders doubled. Stallings hit a home run to put Post 34 up 4-2. Again the lead would not hold up as Post 65 came up with four hits in the bottom half of the inning to score three runs and take a 5-4 lead.
Post 34 would add three runs in the fourth although a single by Jordan Cooley and a sac fly by Tanner Ashcraft were the only balls to leave the infield. In the fifth, Brandon Tubbs and Austin Alexander led off the inning with back to back singles. Post 34 would score three runs in the inning aided by bunts from Austin Dickerson and Cooley as well as a single by Tanner Ashcraft.
Post 65 would add two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 11-7. The sixth inning started just like the fifth as Tubbs and Alexander singled. Also getting hits in the inning: Blake Herren (single); Jordan Cooley (single); Jacob Bush (double); Tanner Ashcraft (single); and Garrett Stallings (single). Post 34 scored four runs to push the lead out to 16-7.
Post 34 would add three more runs in the seventh when back to back singles by Sanders and Ashcraft scored Alexander, Cooley, and Bush who had all reached on walks.
Trey Burkhalter pitched five innings giving up 7 runs (6 were earned). For the game, Burkhalter allowed 8 hits and four walks. He struck out 4 Post 65 hitters. Jacob Bush came on in the sixth inning and allowed only one baserunner. That baserunner was thrown out at second trying to advance on a ball in the dirt by Dickerson. For the game, Dickerson threw out three Mustangs trying to steal.

Day Four - Columbia, Tennessee
In the 10th Annual Independence Day Classic hosted by Columbia (TN) Post 19, Post 34 defeated Hit after Hit and Dothan Post 12 in mercy rule games to claim it's first title in this tournament. Post 34 had 28 hits on the day and scored 24 runs to claim the championship. Post 34 shortstop, Chase Fields was named the tournament MVP. For the tournament, Fields was 11-18 for a .611 batting average.
Game 5: Post 34 - 14 Hit after Hit - 5
After falling behind in the first inning 4-1, Post 34 starter, Gregg Adcock held Hit after Hit to only one run and four hits the rest of the game. At one point, Adcock retired 7 hitters in a row. Post 34 turned in one of its best defensive performances of the season as every out was recorded by the defense. Adcock did not register a strikeout against one of the better hitting teams Post 34 has faced this season.
In the second inning, Post 34 sent 13 batters to the plate. When the inning was over Post 34 had recorded 9 hits and 8 runs. Three singles by Jared Pratt, Austin Alexander, and Chase Sullivan started off the inning to load the bases. Following a sacrifice fly by Austin Dickerson that scored Pratt, the next seven batters for Post 34 reached safely. Jacob Bush singled to score Alexander then Cameron Sanders was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Fields then cleared the bases with a double and was knocked in by a single from Garrett Stallings, who advanced to second on the throw to a plate. Stallings then scored on Brandon Tubbs single. Following singles by Pratt and Alexander, Tubbs scored to put Post 34 out in front 9-4.
Post 34 continued to score in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. In the third, Cameron Sanders walked and scored on a double by Stallings. Pratt led off the fourth with a single and then moved to second on a bunt by Alexander. After Austin Dickerson walked, Jacob Bush doubled scoring two runs. Sanders singled to drive in both runs. In the fifth inning, Pratt doubled for his fourth hit of the game, driving in Stallings who had led off the inning with a single.
Hit after Hit would get a run in the fifth but due to the tournament mercy rule of eight runs after 5, Post 34 advanced to the championship game with a 14-5 win.
Game 6: Post 34 - 10 Dothan Post 12 - 2
For the second consecutive year, Post 34 and Post 12 squared off in the championship game of the Independence Day Classic. This year there would be a different result. In 2010, Dothan defeated Post 34 on a hit in the last inning to plate the winning run. This year, Post 34 made sure there would be no late inning heroics by winning its fifth game of the tournament by the mercy rule, 10-2.
Mason Morris started for Post 34 and turned in his best performance of the summer. After allowing two runs in the first, Morris allowed only one Post 12 baserunner to reach second and gave up only one hit for the remainder of the game. In 6 innings, Morris allowed four hits and walk two while recording three strikeouts.
Down 2-0, the first four hitters in the second reached on hits. Brandon Tubbs led off the inning with a single followed by Pratt's fifth consecutive hit on the day. Alexander and Post 34 designated hitter, Chase Sullivan, singled to tie the score. Austin Dickerson bunted to score Alexander and gave Post 34 a 3-2 lead.
In the fourth inning, Alexander doubled and moved up to third on a wild pitch. Chase Sullivan walked but was picked off first. That didn't stop Post 34's scoring for the inning. Dickerson sacrificed again to score Alexander although this time it was a fly ball sacrifice to the Post 12 centerfield. With two outs, Bush singled and Sanders walked. Both Post 34 baserunners moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Chase Fields single to make the score 6-2.

Champions of the Independence Day Classic
I will update later but we won both games today to claim the championship.

Day Three - Columbia, Tennessee
The Quarterfinal round took place at Columbia State Community College. Post 34 took on the Middle Tennessee Mix and won 4-1. Following the game, we drove into Nashville for dinner and entertainment.
Game Four: Post 34 - 4 MT Mix - 1
Chase Sullivan only allowed one run in 7 innings of work to help Post 34 get the win. Sullivan struck out eight and gave up 5 hits to get the complete game win.
In the second inning with one out, Brandon Tubbs walked and Austin Alexander singled. Alec Adamcyzk singled to load the bases. Jacob Bush doubled to right to bring in Tubbs and Alexander but Jordan Cooley, who was running for Post 34 catcher, Adamcyzk, was thrown out at the plate for the third out.
In the fourth inning, Tubbs and Alexander scored again after Tubbs reached on a double down the line and Alexander was hit by a pitch. After a sacrifice bunt by Austin Dickerson, Jacob Bush got his second hit of the game to bring in Tubbs and Alexander.
Also having a multi-hit performance for Post 34 was Chase Fields (3-3 with 2 singles and a double), Brandon Tubbs (2-2 with a single and a double), and Alec Adamcyzk (2-3 with two singles).

Day Two - Columbia, Tennessee
We began the 16 team single elimination tournament as the number one seed from our pool. Our opponent was Training Camp out of Murfreesboro, TN.
Game 3: Post 34 - 11 Training Camp - 3
After a rocky start that included walking the first four batters of the game, Terran Cochran picked up another win in his first season of Post 34. Cochran got out of the first without allowing a run when he picked off the leadoff batter at first and then with bases loaded with the 2, 3, & 4 hitters, he struck out the fifth batter and the sixth batter flew out to right field.
In the bottom of the first, Garrett Stallings gave Post 34 a 3-0 lead when he hit a home run to straight away centerfield. Stallings' shot also scored Jacob Bush and Chase Fields who had reached on a walk and fielder's choice respectively.
Post 34 continued it's streak of scoring in every inning by scoring single runs in the 2nd and 3rd and three runs in the 4th and 5th. Post 34 came to bat in the bottom of the fifth needing three runs to end the game with the 8 run mercy rule. Austin Dickerson led off the inning with a walk followed by a single from Brandon Tubbs. After a walk to Blake Herren, Jacob Bush and Cameron Sanders both singled. Bush's single scored Jordan Cooley, who was running for Austin Dickerson. Sanders' single scored Tubbs and Herren giving Post 34 it's 3 runs and the 11-3 victory.
For the game, Jacob Bush was 2-3 with with two singles and a walk. Stallings was 2-2 with the home run and a single and he was hit by a pitch in his second time to the plate. Cochran threw all five innings allowing five hits and struck out 3.
On Sunday, Post 34 plays in the quarterfinal round against Middle Tennessee. The game is at 12:30 at Columbia State. Columbia State was the home of the Southeast Regional last season as well as 2004.
Following the game yesterday, our plan was to go to downtown Nashville but we decided to move that trip to Sunday night since there would be more going on with the Fourth of July celebration getting kicked off. Instead we ate at our normal place in the Columbia Mall, Bonanza Steakhouse. After dinner our plan was to go to Glow Golf, a putt-putt golf place inside the mall. Unfortunately since our trip to Columbia last summer, Glow Golf had closed. We decided instead to go to Galaxy Lanes and bowl a few games. A few of the guys had good games but the overall winner was our bus driver Bob Kimbrell who threw three games above 150. He told us he had not bowled since 1981. We think we were hustled.

Day One - Columbia, Tennessee
Our trip got off to a good start as we picked up two wins in the Columbia Post 19 Independence Day Classic.
Game 1: Post 34 - 8 Gallatin, TN - 0
Brad Phillips picked up the win throwing a complete game in the five inning game that was shortened due to the mercy rule. Phillips allowed only one hit while striking out 6.
Garrett Stallings hit a 2 run homer in the first inning to get the scoring started. Stallings added another hit in the fourth when he doubled in Chase Fields. Fields was 2-3 one the day with a single and a double. Chase Sullivan was 2-3 with a single and a double. Austin Dickerson was 2-2 with two singles.
Game 2: Post 34 - 14 Franklin Generals - 2
Post 34 scored 4 in each of the first three innings along with two more in the third to get the sweep and first place in Pool 2. Brett Snider threw two innings to get the win. Chase Sulivan, Trey Burkhalter, and Garrett Stallings all threw one inning each. Post 34 pitchers gave up four hits and struck out 6.
Offensively, Post 34 was led at the plate by Chase Fields, Jared Pratt, and Blake Herren with two hits each. Austin Alexander had a two run home run in the 4th.
In ten innings of baseball, Post 34 scored in every inning but one for the day. Tomorrow, we face Training Academy of Murfreesboro. This begins the 16 team single elimination tournament. Game time for tomorrow is 3 PM at Spring Hill High School.
